# Studymap

> Learning paths from your course materials: a web app for university and course students that turns their uploaded study materials into a learning path, essentials first, every explanation linked to its source.

Studymap is a working name. Talk to us: https://studymap.40.160.61.91.sslip.io/#start (a form; accounts are set up by the team). Log in: https://studymap.40.160.61.91.sslip.io/app/login.
Inputs: slide decks, PDFs, Word documents, SQL and other practice files, lecture recordings (transcribed). Optional: exam questions or a syllabus.
Language: English first; one language per pack. Market: the EU.
What it does not do: it does not delete material it treats as filler, and it does not write explanations without a source.
Pricing: one Student plan, €9.99 a month or €89.90 a year (25% less); prices include VAT; no free tier.

## Learn what matters first.

Upload the slides, textbooks, seminar files and practice sets you were given. Studymap finds what the course actually tests, explains it in plain language, and links every explanation to the page or slide it came from.

For students preparing for an exam, and for the people who teach them: lecturers, schools and companies that run courses.

A course's worth of material, and no order to it. Slide decks, a few textbooks, recorded lectures, seminar handouts, problem sets. There is a lot of it, it is not structured, and much of it is filler. The part that actually matters is often a third to a half of the total.

## How it works

Studymap takes all of it, finds what matters, and turns it into a path you can follow a little at a time.

1. **Upload everything.** Slide decks, PDF textbooks, seminar handouts, problem sets, lecture recordings. Add the exam questions or the syllabus if you have them: they are the strongest signal.
2. **Every fragment keeps its place.** Slides, PDFs and documents are parsed. Each fragment remembers where it came from: the file, the page, the slide.
3. **The essentials go on the main line.** Concepts are linked into a graph and weighed. What the course really tests becomes the line; the rest moves to optional depth, one click away.
4. **You follow the line.** Set an exam date and the time you have each day. You get today's stops, in plain language, with the source one click away.

## What counts as important

Importance is computed from signals in your materials, not from asking a model what it thinks is important.

- **Exam questions or syllabus.** The strongest signal. If you have them, the path is built from them.
- **How often the instructor covers it.** A concept that shows up in the lecture, the slides and the seminar is core. The textbook weighs least: it is a reference for depth.
- **What the lecturer stresses.** Phrases like “this will be on the exam” are easy to find in a transcript.
- **Practice.** Seminar tasks and problem sets show which skills are actually tested.
- **The graph.** A concept that half the course depends on is core, even if it is mentioned rarely.

**Filler is never deleted.** It moves off the main line into optional depth, one click away, with the reason it was moved.

## The map works like a metro line

Topics run down the trunk and concepts are the stops. The main line comes from your materials and stays put. Optional depth hangs to the side, dashed.

- **Main line.** The essentials, in the order they build on each other.
- **Optional depth.** Everything else, one click off the line, with the reason it is there.
- **Your layer.** Stops never move. Only their state changes: known, mastered, due for review, you are here, today's plan.

Zoom levels: Pack → Topic → Concept → Explanation and sources.

## Stuck on a stop? Take a detour

When a stop does not click, a few quick questions walk back through what it builds on and find the real gaps. The detour is the shortest set of steps that fills them, basics first.

- **It finds the real gap.** A short diagnosis checks the stops this one depends on. The gap is often two levels deeper than where you got stuck.
- **It adapts as you go.** A confident answer drops the next step. A shaky one adds a step.
- **It always rejoins the line.** A detour can be several steps long and can cover several stops. It rejoins the main line at the first stop that needs it.

Detour steps are of three kinds: diagnosis, review of an earlier stop, new explanation.

### Express pass

If the diagnosis finds more than a handful of gaps, a whole topic is weak and a detour is the wrong tool. You get an express pass: a parallel lane next to the trunk, built around the task you got stuck on, with new explanations and examples.

- Progress never goes down. The express runs beside the line, not back along it.
- Nothing is shown the same way twice.
- What you already know is passed, not redone: one mixed task covers the topic.
- Cost and exit are clear before you start.
- Stops on the express are marked solid, and their reviews spread out.

## Every explanation has a source

Explanations are written in plain language, and every statement links to the fragment it is based on. They may simplify. They may not say anything without a source.

- Lecture: jumps to the timecode
- Slides: opens the slide
- Textbook: opens the page
- Seminar: opens the handout
- Problem set: opens the task

## For course owners

Publish a course from the same upload, share it with your learners and see where they leave the line.

- **Same upload, shared.** Upload your materials once; every learner gets the same main line and their own path along it.
- **See where they leave the line.** The share of learners who take a detour at each stop, and the most common detour chains.
- **Fix the line, not the learner.** When most learners take the same detour, a suggestion for what the main line is missing.

A lecturer, a school or a company: write to us with the course and the number of learners, and we set it up with you.

## FAQ

### What can I upload?

Slide decks, PDFs, Word documents, SQL or other practice files, and lecture recordings (video or audio), which are transcribed. If you have exam questions or a syllabus, add them too: they are the strongest signal for what goes on the main line.

### Does it throw away what it calls filler?

No. Filler moves off the main line into optional depth, one click away, with the reason it was moved. You can always open it.

### How do I know an explanation is right?

Every statement links to the fragment it is based on: the page, the slide, the timecode, the task in a problem set. Open it and check against your own material.

### What happens when I get something wrong?

A few quick questions find the real gap, and you get a short detour that fills it and brings you back to the line. If a whole topic is weak, you get an express pass instead. Your progress never goes down.

### What language does it work in?

English first. Each pack has one language, chosen at upload. Materials in other languages are read in their own language, explanations come in the pack language, and source links point to the original.

### I teach a course. Can I share it with my students?

Yes. Upload the course once, invite your students, and every one of them gets the same main line and their own path along it. Write to us and we set it up with you.

### How much does it cost?

There is no price list yet: the platform is at launch stage, and our manager works out a plan for each case individually, for a student or for an organization. Write to us.
